About This Project

Imperial Sugar is a Texas based sugar manufacturer with a major refinery in Savannah that produces consumer products such as Dixie Crystals as well as Savannah Gold brown sugar, syrups and molasses used by their industrial customers in confections and icings. On February 7, 2008 there was a major dust explosion at the Savannah Plant that took the lives of 14 workers and injured 30 others.

Since that time Imperial Sugar has made a commitment to rebuild the Savannah Plant and make it a safe work environment. Imperial Sugar was purchased by Louis Dreyfus Commodities LLC in 2012. JSC Systems has been consulting with Imperial Sugar since August 2008 with regards to fire alarm and mass notification system design throughout their Savannah plant. In March 2009, JSC Systems began work to furnish and install an Edwards EST-3 fire alarm network and mass notification in selected areas. The fire alarm and mass notification system employs a graphical user interface and ATI outside plant mass notification system consisting of large speaker arrays. The fire alarm and mass notification system upgrades have been installed in a phased approach with the majority of the work ending in January 2014.
